Inside Out 2's critical acclaim (and box office success) promises that at least one more sequel would happen. Actor Kensington Tallman hopes that film would see Riley Anderson move on from adolescence to adulthood.
Pixar has yet to confirm Inside Out 3 but fans are already eager about its plot; Part 2's ending proved the franchise could expand with more installments. These would likely follow Riley Anderson (played by Kensington Tallman) as she experiences more of life's challenges, triumphs, and emotions. Tallman told Screen Rant that even though she identified with what Riley was going through in Inside Out 2, she hoped the character would enter a new phase in the sequel. Part 2 revealed Riley is only two years older than she was in Inside Out, so her transition into adulthood in Inside Out 3 would require a significant time jump.

Inside Out 2 Knocks Out MCU Film to Enter Top 10 List of Highest-Grossing Movies Ever
Disney-Pixar's Inside Out 2 joins the Top 10 highest-grossing movies ever, nearing $1.524B worldwide, surpassing Furious 7 and The Avengers.
"I'd really love to see her exploring college and entering adulthood because I feel like the three pivotal moments in our lives are childhood, teenhood, and then adult," she asserted. The pitch makes sense for a trilogy arc, but Inside Out 2's success at the box office suggests prequels, sequels, and even spinoffs would also work out. Tallman teased how Riley's arc would play out. "Going from a teenager to an adult is so different. I'm not there yet - I just turned 16 the other day, so I'm on the brink of that - but a lot of my friends are older and are in college," she continued. "They're experiencing different changes, like being away from home and living on their own. I think that would be a really unique storyline for Inside Out 3. Fingers crossed! "
Inside Out 2 Teases Potential For Expanded Franchise
Riley has been endeared to fans as the franchise's main protagonist, but more "human" characters may also be introduced to explore Inside Out's main premise. The story hinged on anthropomorphized emotions and their influence on the personality of its protagonist. The first film introduced Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Fear, and Anger guiding Riley's psyche during childhood; Envy, Embarrassment, Ennui, and Anxiety complicated their dynamic in Inside Out 2, affecting Riley's social interactions in the real world. Anxiety proved to be the catalyst for her breakthrough, and that film ended on a hopeful note with Joy regaining her role as guide to the other emotions.

One of Inside Out 2's Newest Emotions Is Painfully Relatable
Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 introduces several new emotions, but one of them is extremely relatable -- so much so that it hurts.
Amy Poehler, the voice actor for Joy, revealed how other emotions could be added in Inside Out 3. She suggested a green room would be created to tease their debut, much like the Game Central Station where characters congregate in Wreck-It Ralph. "There's a place separate from headquarters where these more complicated emotions hang out," Poehler told Entertainment Weekly. "Like a lounge where they're kind of waiting to go on. It's almost like an emotional batting cage, and they're just getting ready." The creative heads for Inside Out 2 have already confirmed more emotions were developed for the film but didn't make the cut; Poehler's idea allows those emotions to "audition" for their part.
Inside Out 2 will be released in digital format on Aug. 20, and available on physical media on Sept. 10.
